Hey Traci, fascinating personal reflection. I’m a web developer and an instructor at General Assembly and I’d love to help if you have any questions.

Just some points from reading your post:

  • Your descriptions of HTML and CSS are spot on. HTML provides structure and items on the screen, and CSS provides the styling.
  • JavaScript is the de facto programming language used to develop websites and web apps — but JavaScript is not Java!
  • JavaScript gives you a way to determine the interactivity your users can have with your site/app. It provides functionality.

Hope that’s helpful to you in some way. Don’t hesitate to send me a PM if you have any questions about web development or programming in general, or even teaching (I’ve taught coding to young children under 12 before).

Keep doing what you’re doing, because you’re right, kids need to be tech literate!
